Get a Library Card?

You can apply for a library card at either branch by presenting ID with proof of your current address. Accepted ID is a valid Maryland driver’s license, learner’s permit or identification card.  ID such as printed checks or recently postmarked mail with a current address will be considered upon request.

Who can have a Library Card?

Everyone! Queen Anne’s County Library cards are free for Maryland residents and those who work in the County. The card is valid for five years.  Cardholders of other Maryland public libraries may choose to have that card registered in our automated system as long as it has a compatible barcode. Maryland nonresidents are charged $30.00 per year for a Queen Anne’s County library card.

We welcome library card holders of all ages, but a parent or guardian must sign for applicants under the age of 18 unless the child presents a valid Maryland driver’s license or learner’s permit. A child must be present to sign the card.  Your signature indicates that you accept responsibility for supervising your child’s use of the library.  The borrower or adult is responsible for the card’s security, for any materials checked out and for any charges incurred.

What are the types of cards for children?

Parents of children under 5 years of age may apply for a toddler card.  These cards allow the check out of children’s books and audio materials.

Children ages 5 to 18 will be issued a juvenile card which allows the check out of books and audio materials.

Parents of children ages 13 to 18 can sign permission for their child to have a young adult card. In addition to books and audio materials, this card allows for the check out of DVDs, Blu-Ray discs, videogames, and more. 

Are there special card for teachers and home school parents?

Teachers and parents who home school may apply for a teacher or homeschool card which allows up to 99 items to be checked out (some item restrictions apply).

Online Card Registration

Can’t wait for library hours to get your card? Click HERE to create a temporary card number. This number will allow you to place holds on items and use our databases (including Overdrive/Libby). It will expire in 30 days. Visit any library location with proof of residence to receive a permanent card, use a computer, or check out items. 

Maryland State Law protects the privacy of all circulation records.  Library staff cannot discuss circulation records over the telephone or with anyone other than the card holder.
