Notary Public
Queen Anne’s County Library offers notary services for free when a notary public is available.
What you need to know:
· Notary public services are available by appointment only.
· Please call ahead to confirm a notary is available and that the document to be notarized meets the criteria for the Library’s notary services:
o Kent Island Branch: 410-643-8161
o Centreville Branch: 410-758-0980
· The Library's free notary service is intended for simple documents.
What to Bring
· A current government-issued photo ID* (no digital or printed copies), and all signers must be present at the signing.
· ALL pages of the document unsigned. Signatures must be witnessed by the notary.
· Any witnesses required for the document. Please ensure you bring the correct number of witnesses with proper identification to serve in that role. The Library will not allow employees or customers in the Library to be solicited to serve as a witness.
Notaries screen the signers of the documents for their:
· True identity
· Willingness to sign without duress or intimidation
· Awareness of the content of the documents or transaction – notaries cannot draft or revise documents or provide legal or financial advice.
Please Note:
· *If your current government-issued identification does not reflect your legal name, government issued documentation of a legal name change is required.
· Notaries will not provide their signature and seal if the customer’s document or circumstances of the request for notarization raise any issues of authenticity, ambiguity, complexity, doubt, or uncertainty. In this event, the library notary may at their sole discretion decline to provide notary service.
