General Information

Library Card Policy

Library cards for adults 18+ will be issued immediately upon presentation of appropriate ID. The required ID is a valid MD Driver’s license or ID card with current address. ID such as mail or printed checks provided current address will be considered upon request.

Young Adult Cards: Library card holders age 13-17 may check out DVD, Blu-rays and Kindles when a parent or guardian has come into the library and signed a borrower agreement giving permission. Students with a MD driver’s license can apply for a Young Adult card without requiring signature of parent or guardian.

Juvenile and Toddler Cards: Library cards for children will be issued immediately upon application with the signature of a parent/legal guardian.

Family Cards and Using Another Person’s Card

Possessing another person’s library card is viewed by the library as having that person’s consent to checkout items on that record.

Loan Periods

  • Books, Kindles, Inter-Library Loan Items: 28 Days (unless indicated otherwise)

  • New Books, Audio Materials, Magazines: 14 Days

  • DVDs/Blu-Rays: 14 Days.

  • Mobile Hot-Spots: 14 days

  • Fishing Poles: 28 days 

Renewals

Items may only be renewed if they are not on hold for someone else.

Three renewals will be allowed on all items. Renewals may be done in person, by telephone, via our website or through our app. Online renewals may only be done if a Personal Identification Number has been obtained. Create your PIN at the circulation desk. Renewals for ILLs are subject to approval.

Patrons owing $20 or more will have borrowing privileges suspended

Fines/Fees

We are a fine free library system. Fees will only be assessed for lost materials.

Library Notices

All notices including holds and courtesy notices may be received via email or text.

Privacy

MD State law protects the privacy of all circulation records. Library staff cannot discuss patron records over the phone or with anyone other than the card holder.

Internet Use

The library provides internet access computers for use by the public. Card holders with fines under $20 may use the Internet for a maximum of 3 hours per day. If others are waiting, access is limited to 30 minutes. Guest passes are available for visitors upon request.
